January 31

I don't understand why pink isn't just called light red. I see the logic in grey, but when you add white to any other colour they're just called light
Someone asked 'what about baby blue?'
Baby blue is like lavender, they're just light blue and light purple and not used as frequently. Baby blue makes sense, if you're paining your baby's room blue, you're likely going to use a light blue. Lavender makes sense because lavender is light purple. I just don't know where this 'pink' came from.
Someone asked, 'what about taupe, why not dark cream?'
Once you pass the primary and secondary colours there's a flippin plethora of names to describe different combinations and shades. Taupe vs. dark cream doesn't bother me, I could use either to describe something and get my point across just as efficiently. But I'm sure that if I called something light red, people wouldn't think of pink. I get that we, as a race, like to name things; but the irrelevance and dispensability of the word just causes me to wonder how it became so customary.
